Valentines Day

Do we really need roses?

Do we really need roses on valentines day? And all the chocolates and teddy bears? Do we really need the material goods to make us feel loved and appreciated? Shouldn’t we feel loved and appreciated everyday of the year instead of just one? Why do we have to make that one day of the year extra special?

Sure, you can call me bitter and sure, you can say, “you’re only saying that because you haven’t received anything and you just want to complain about it.” Yes, that may be a viable solution if you are completely wrapped up in pink and red paper called “market conditioning.” Think about it. Logically. Before you make your accusations, just think for one minute. What if? What if you were merely conditioned by the market, commercializers and retailers to think that you HAVE to “prove” your love on THIS ONE DAY AND ONE DAY ONLY or else you will be a social reject? Does your love need to be proven in this way? Shouldn’t you be doing all the special little things everyday to make your significant other feel loved?

Okay, and let’s just say that maybe perhaps you are not influenced by social norms and marketing devices and that you just want to buy chocolates for your significant other. Then wouldn’t it make more logical sense to buy them AFTER valentines day? I mean, chocolates do go on sale the day after plus cards are way cheaper too.

And okay fine, let’s argue that it’s the “thought” that counts and not the money, then wouldn’t it make more sense to be thoughtful everyday? Instead of just that one day?

Anyways, to those that celebrate valentines day, koodoos to you! :) my bf and I spent the day playing video games, spending the day with each other and I forced him to watch “The little mermaid” with me. :) we didn’t get each other presents or flowers and we didn’t say mushy things to each other either. Because let’s face it, it’s the thought of being together everyday that counts right? ;)
